Their Panzer units are similar to that of the Wehrmacht, but they are more mobile, have better speed, and are able to lock down to increase the accuracy and firing rate of their main guns. Panzer Elite utilizes vehicles such as open-top half-tracks to carry infantry and reinforce the front, which fight along their fast-moving Panzers, which are designed to hit hard and at speed. Unlike the Wehrmacht, the Panzer Elite are a highly-mobile, naturally "blitz" force, emphasizing speed, mobility and vicious assaults to overwhelm the enemy. The Company of Heroes update Opposing Fronts saw the addition of the Panzer Elite faction to the Axis. These three doctrines are the Defensive Doctrine, Blitzkrieg Doctrine and Terror Doctrine. Axis commanders can gain the upper hand in battle through the use of three doctrines, which can allow them to deploy superior units, such as Stormtroopers, Tiger tanks, and the superheavy King Tiger tanks. Axis armored assault vehicles (or Panzers) are slower and less mobile than their Allied counterparts, but employ superior firepower and heavier armor to hold their own in battle. The Axis Pioneer Squads function as multipurpose engineers, capable of constructing base defenses and production buildings, as well as the all-important Kampfkraft Center. Wehrmacht forces are essentially quality-oriented, focusing on smaller, more efficient squads to get the job done, such as Grenadiers. However, they make up for it with superior firepower, technology and the best armor units in the game. The Axis faction, as a general rule, is much more expensive to maintain than the Allied faction, and often field far fewer units. In Company of Heroes, the Axis include military elements of Nazi Germany, such as the Wehrmacht, Wehrmacht Ostheer and Panzer Elite. The Axis or the Axis Powers is a playable faction in Company of Heroes and fought during World War II.
